Director of Development (full time)

Pets Come First is looking for mission driven individual to serve as our full time Director of Development to help us move our shelter into the future. This position, reporting to the Pets Come First Board of Directors, will be a key member of our shelter leadership team.

The Director of Development will be responsible for driving the fundraising, donor relations, and resource development strategies. This position will oversee all fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor cultivation, annual giving campaigns, major gifts, and corporate partnerships, ensuring the organization has the financial resources needed to fulfill its mission of animal rescue, care, and advocacy.

As the Director of Development, you’ll be a vital member of our leadership team, spearheading fundraising and donor engagement initiatives to fuel our lifesaving work. This is more than a job—it’s a chance to shape the future of a growing, mission-driven organization.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and grow all aspects of fundraising, from major gifts and annual campaigns to grant writing and corporate sponsorships
  • Build strong relationships with donors, community leaders, and supporters
  • Develop and implement long-term fundraising strategies in collaboration with our Board of Directors and shelter staff
  • Oversee donor communications and engagement with professionalism
  • Elevate awareness and support for Pets Come First across Central Pennsylvania
Qualifications:
  • A strategic thinker with experience and a proven record of successful fundraising and donor development.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of fundraising principles, strategies, and best practices, including online fundraising tools, social media, and donor databases such as Salesforce.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Deep ties to the local community and a passion for animal advocacy.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and a collaborative spirit.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in development/fundraising
  • Major gift experience
  • Participation in occasional weekend and evening events required
