Board of Directors Position
Pets Come First is seeking passionate and skilled leaders to join our Board of Directors. Located just 10 miles from State College and Penn State University, Pets Come First was founded in 2005 and is dedicated to placing animals into forever homes. Last year alone, we successfully adopted out more than 500 cats, dogs, and small animals.
As a board member, you will play a critical role in guiding the vision, strategy, and sustainability of the shelter. We are looking for forward-thinking leaders who can help us build on our strong foundation and take Pets Come First into the future—expanding our reach, deepening our community impact, and exploring new and positive directions for animal welfare in our region.
We are especially seeking individuals with expertise in:
- Finance – budgeting, financial oversight, and fundraising strategy
- Law – nonprofit law, governance, and compliance
- Marketing & Communications – branding, community engagement, and outreach
- Human Resources –organizational leadership and staff/volunteer management
Ideal candidates will:
- Have proven leadership and governance experience
- Bring professional expertise in one or more of the areas above
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to animal welfare and to advancing our mission
- Be willing to actively participate in board meetings, committees, and fundraising initiatives
- Serve as ambassadors for Pets Come First in the community, helping to build relationships and secure resources
- Bring vision, creativity, and a collaborative spirit to help shape the next chapter of our shelter’s growth
- Have a thorough understanding of the responsibilities of nonprofit boards
